Mr. Lodge recruits Archie and his friends to retrace the route from the diary of his explorer grandfather, Cyrus Lodge. He wants to bring the diary up to date before publishing it. The route runs through the National Parks of Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and Waterton-Glacier.
